Wooden cottage, the forest behind the brook,

An old timber cottage from 1923, built in the vanished glass-makers' settlement of Elba. The brook Sklená voda flows in front, behind it a forest that leads nowhere. Within eight kilometres: no petrol station, no shop, no post office — just grazing cows, porcini mushrooms beneath the beeches, and in winter, tracks in the fresh snow.

A table that doesn't sleep.
At Elba it isn't just about dinner. Food keeps coming from morning until night — pancakes, mushroom soup, cheese with wine in the afternoon, a five-course feast by the fireplace in the evening.
No tweezers, no complicated names. Meat that falls apart under the fork, bread fresh from the oven, one-pot dishes that scent the whole cottage. Six-hour goulash. Slow-roasted duck. Sometimes game from the local woods, depending on the season.

Elba is a former settlement, founded in the 16th century by glass-makers. Today only a few cottages remain. The brook Sklená voda runs in front of ours, and behind it a forest that leads nowhere. The nearest neighbour is a hundred metres away and keeps llamas.
If you want to go somewhere: the Jelení vrch viewpoint, the Pasák nature trail, a Second World War plane wreck. If you don't want to go anywhere, you don't have to.

Hello, this is Tomáš. I spent a few years in Greece and learned there that the best food is worth nothing if there's no spark at the table. The Greeks have a word for it — filoxenia, the joy that someone has come to visit you.
At Elba that means I don't just set the food on the table. I bring the roasting pan from the kitchen, pour the wine, toss in a story that will make you laugh, and make sure the evening starts at the right tempo. No starched service. Just honest food, fire, and pure ease.

Cottage without Tomáš
If you'd rather light the fire and cook yourself. The cottage, bedding, firewood, wifi (weak), quiet. You cook your own meals.
